Prime Time Healthcare Nursing is seeking a travel nurse RN NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care for a travel nursing job in Little Rock, Arkansas.

NICU RN – Arkansas Children’s Hospital | Little Rock, AR

Shift: 12-hour Nights
Unit: Level IV NICU
Facility: 359-bed Level I Trauma / Teaching Hospital
NICU Size: 104 beds
EMR: Epic – REQUIRED
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Call: None
 

Must-Have Experience

  • 3+ years of NICU experience
  • Level IV NICU experience is REQUIRED and must be clearly documented in the submission packet
  • Level I or Level II NICU experience will NOT be considered
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment
  • Epic experience required

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • NRP

Preferred: NCC Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing certification

Patient Ratios

Typically 1:1–1:3/4, depending on acuity.

NICU is organized into approximately 8-bed pods.

 

Patient Population / Acuity

Travelers should be comfortable caring for extremely high-acuity neonates, including:

  • Micro-preemies down to approximately 23 weeks
  • Very low birth weight infants
  • Complications of prematurity
  • Chronic lung disease
  • Intracranial bleeds
  • NEC / perforation
  • Spina bifida
  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia
  • Cleft lip/palate/mandible
  • General surgical neonates
  • PDA ligations
  • Therapeutic body cooling
  • Transfers from surrounding Level II NICUs

Average patient stay is approximately 40 days.

  • ECMO
  • Nitric Oxide
  • HFOV
  • Jet Ventilation
  • IMV
  • Servo ventilators
  • GE monitoring
  • OmniBeds / Giraffe isolettes
  • Kangaroo Care equipment

Respiratory Therapy manages ventilators, with RT and anesthesia support available.

Floating

Travelers are first to float and may float within the ICU cluster, including:

  • PICU
  • CVICU
  • Burn ICU
  • IMU

Floating is based on demonstrated competency.

Unit Support

  • 24/7 Neonatologist coverage
  • Advanced Practice providers on the unit
  • Dedicated multidisciplinary team
  • Approximately 1–2 PCTs per shift
  • Respiratory and anesthesia support
  • Nearby lab/tech support

License

Active Arkansas or Compact RN license required upon offer.

Important Compliance Requirements

  • Must test negative for nicotine
  • Must pass facility fit testing
  • Facial hair is not permitted for fit testing unless accommodation applies for religious beliefs
  • COVID vaccination is not required
  • Arkansas Children’s dress code must be followed

This is a true high-acuity Level IV NICU assignment. Best fit is an experienced NICU traveler with Level IV experience, Epic proficiency, and strong micro-preemie/advanced respiratory care skills.
