Job Summary
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN) position in an acute care setting. The role involves providing specialized care to neonatal patients with complex medical needs, including premature infants, critically ill newborns, and pediatric patients up to 21 years old. The position requires flexibility in floating between NICU, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Pediatric (Peds) units, with primary responsibilities in the Level 3 NICU.

Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 11.5 hours per shift, with 13 shifts scheduled over a 4-week period
  • Schedule: 11.5-hour shifts, minimum of 34.5 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Valid licensure as an RN, minimum of 1 year of RN experience, current certifications including Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); experience caring for intubated and mechanically ventilated infants, handling oscillators, NG/OG tube management, IV insertions, central lines, and critical thinking skills. Prior Level 3 NICU experience preferred.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in care of critically ill neonates, PICU, or Peds units; previous travel experience is advantageous.
  • Float: Float rotation between NICU, PICU, and Peds units may be required, including core staff duties during deliveries.
  • Additional Information:
    • Unit primarily based in a Level 3 NICU with 40 beds and specific nurse-to-patient ratio requirements
    • Common diagnoses managed include prematurity, sepsis, hypoglycemia, congenital anomalies, respiratory distress syndrome, and post-surgical or cardiology transfer cases
    • Nurse staffing includes 2 nurse aides on days, neonatologist in-house 24/7, and on-call neonatologists at night
    • Equipment utilized includes NCPAP, oscillators, Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Non-Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (NIMV), and high flow oxygen systems
    • Read strips and monitor telemetry as part of daily responsibilities
    • Unit-specific orientation: 2 days departmental, 1 day nursery/PICU
    • Holiday and weekend work required with some flexibility, potential for overtime, and occasional call/standby opportunities
