Job Summary:
A Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical with Telemetry (MS TELE) is needed at a healthcare organization in Peoria, Illinois. This position involves working on a dedicated neuro unit with a focus on neurology, trauma, and medical overflow cases. The assignment provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality patient care within a fast-paced acute care setting.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, a total of 48 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Illinois RN license or confirmation that application has been initiated, BLS certification through the American Heart Association, NIHSS certification, at least 1 year of RN experience in a related setting, previous neuro unit experience, level 1 trauma experience, and travel experience (no first-time travelers).
- Department: Neuro Medical-Surgical Acute, with 54 beds (2 semi-private).
- Patient Ratios: Night shift 1:5-6; day shift 1:4-5; responsibilities include managing stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, and head injury patients, among others.
- Certifications and Skills: RNs must be able to titrate drips, specifically heparin titrated based on PTT, and perform troubleshooting with high flow oxygen equipment; RNs read telemetry strips on Phillips monitors in a housewide telemetry setup.
- Team Structure: Charge nurse available 24/7 who does not take patient assignments unless staffing is short, and a house supervisor on duty 24/7.
- Support personnel: Nurse aides/patient care techs are present with ratios of 1:9-12 depending on shift.
- Other Details: Orientation includes 2 days of computer and unit-specific training plus patient care with a preceptor. No scrub color requirements; tattoos must be covered.
- Assignment notes: Float in rotation with the general staff team; skills and competencies apply when floated outside the unit.
- Shifts & Scheduling: One shift of 12 hours; efforts made to meet staffing requests and block shifts when possible.
- Weekend & Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday.
- Additional: No call or standby duties required.
