Absolute Minimum Qualifications for Submission Review:
- Licensure Mandate: Must possess an active, verified New York State (NYS) RN License in hand at submission.
- Core Certifications Required: Active AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certifications.
- Clinical Skills: Verified proficiency and direct experience in reading basic cardiac rhythm strips and conducting frequent, detailed neurological assessments.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 3+ years of acute care hospital experience in telemetry, stroke care, or high-acuity medical-surgical units.
- Care Delivery Models: Demonstrated ability to thrive in both primary and team nursing models within a high-turnover environment.
- On-Call Requirement: None. No mandatory on-call or standby shifts.
Job Summary & Unit Context
A facility in Elmira, NY is seeking an experienced, quick-thinking Stroke / Telemetry Med Surg RN for a 13-week night-shift assignment on the 3B/3C Stroke Telemetry Unit. Operating within a fast-paced, high-acuity 34-bed unit, the incoming nurse will manage patients recovering from acute strokes and complex cardiac conditions. This role requires disciplined adherence to stroke core measures, rapid clinical response capabilities, and meticulous bedside safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Neurological & Telemetry Monitoring: Perform frequent neurological assessments utilizing the NIH Stroke Scale, continuously monitor basic cardiac rhythms, and initiate rapid interventions for acute rhythm changes or neuro-decline.
- Stroke Core Measure Compliance: Ensure strict documentation and implementation of stroke care protocols, including dysphagia screenings, patient/family education, and specialized care plans.
- Medication Administration & Safety: Safely administer medications utilizing Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) systems, maintaining strict focus on safety, accuracy, skin integrity, and fall prevention.
- Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with providers, physical/occupational therapy, and case management to handle rapid patient turnarounds, admissions, and discharges safely.
