On Call, Call Back Requirements: None
Weekend Rotation: 6 shifts on a 6 week schedule (6 out of 12 shifts)
Holiday Requirements: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
Floating Requirements: All med surg / telemetry units

Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years
Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Patients with acute or chronic kidney disease, including end-stage disease (ESRD), HD patients
- Peritoneal dialysis patients (inpatient treatments done on the unit)
- Post-op urology or renal- related surgeries
- Co-morbidities common to med-surg population: diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolytes imbalances
- Medical management of anemia, fluid overload, and renal-related complications
Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:4-6
- LPN: 1:4-6
- CNA: 1-2 per shift
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
- BLS, BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) are required
- ACLS - preferred
- National certification: Medical-Surgical certification or Nephrology Nursing certification - preferred
Skills required:
- trach chare, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucomander, insulin drips, heparin drips, drips to titrate to HR NOT BP
- Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills
- Management of peritoneal dialysis (manual and cycler, training provided if needed)
- IV insertion and care, central line management
- Wound care and post op monitoring
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
- Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
- Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management
Support within the Department:
- CNA: assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
- Receptionist/HUC: Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
- Charge nurse - each unit
- Phlebotomy: Most units are lab collect phlebotomy; nurses drawn from CVLs
- IV/VAT Team: Not an IV team- do have a PICC team
- RT, 24/7
- Hospitalist, 24/7
- Intensivist, 24/7
- Telemetry monitoring/tech: Central Telemetry Unit
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: Phillips
Unit specific equipment:
- VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
- Portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp)
- Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system
- Glucommander
- PCA pain management
- Suction machine
- Use of admission/ discharge protocol for rapid turnover
- Peritoneal dialysis equipment (Home choice)
Floating: If yes, where: All adult med surg / telemetry units in house
Orientation (facility and unit):
- 1 day orientation with work on educational modules
- 2 days departmental
