What the Facility Wants (Requirements & Expectations)
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience Required: Travel experience required; strong knowledge in MedSurg, Infectious Disease, and isolation precautions.
- Certifications: BLS is the only required certification.
- Mandatory Submission Requirement: All submittals must include an unexpired copy of the candidate's driver's license.
Clinical Skills & Patient Types
- Unit Details: Unit 1E (MedSurg/Infectious Disease) – an 18-bed unit with all private rooms.
- Patient Types: Any and all infectious diseases, isolation cases, COVID-19, MRSA, C. diff, etc.
- Drips & Equipment: No cardiac drips. Common titratable or set-rate drips include heparin, typical MedSurg IV medications, and antibiotics. No ventilators; patients on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow are managed by RT.
- Charting System: EPIC (required).
- Telemetry: Remote telemetry from the 3rd floor with monitors at the desk; RNs do not have to read or interpret strips.
Scheduling & Unit Policies
- Ratios: Typically 1:5 to 1:6 (1:4 if COVID); staffed with 3–4 RNs per shift and 2 CNAs per shift.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend. Weekend shifts for nights are Fri/Sat/Sun; days are Sat/Sun. Block scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met.
- Holidays: Depend on unit needs (travelers expected to cover holidays if permanent staff availability is insufficient).
- Floating Requirements: Travelers are first to float and may be required to float to any MedSurg unit or to Tele (assigned patients within skillset).
- Orientation: 1 day of EPIC orientation, followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor (3rd day on their own).
