What the Facility Wants (Requirements & Expectations)
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of experience required.
- License & Certifications: Active RN license and required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NRP.
- Fit Testing & Facial Hair Policy: Clinicians with facial hair must pass a primary or secondary fit test (3M Aura 1860 sm/reg or 3M 1870+). If unable to pass, a Portacount test is required (which cannot be completed on individuals with facial hair). PAPRs cannot be completed on site solely due to failing a fit test from facial hair; contracts will be canceled if facial hair cannot be removed.
Clinical & Unit Overview
- Unit Details: 4 L&D beds and 7 postpartum beds. Rural hospital setting (NICU is over 1 hour away with limited services).
- Patient Ratios & Care: Follows AWHONN guidelines (Labor: 1:1–2; Postpartum: 1:2–3). Patients are generally >35 weeks in labor and mom/baby couplets.
- Key Skills & Responsibilities: Titrating drips (Antepartum/Labor: Magnesium, Oxytocin, LR, Zofran; Postpartum: prenatal vitamins, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Percocet, Toradol). Circulating for C-sections (surgery handles the procedure; RN circulates for the baby). Neonatal ventilator management (CPAP, BiPAP, high flow).
- Floating Requirements: Floating to MSP/ED for helping hands, mostly sitting 1:1 with patients.
Scheduling & Facility Policies
- Weekends & Holidays: Every third weekend; holidays depending on availability.
- Radius & Employment Rules: 50-mile radius rule applies. Candidates cannot be active full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and/or Dignity).
- RTO Policy: RTO must be requested upfront (maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved post-submission.
- Orientation: 3 x 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation. Scrubs provided.
