Job Summary:
The labor and delivery unit nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive obstetric and postpartum care in a facility with high patient satisfaction scores. This role involves managing antepartum, post-partum, and obstetric patients, following AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) guidelines for patient ratios, and performing critical clinical duties, including titrating certain medications under supervision. The position requires adherence to facility policies and collaborative patient management during 12-hour night shifts.
Job Details:
- Location: 2620 West Faille Avenue, Grand Island, Nebraska, 68803
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: BLS Certification, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program); a minimum of 3 years of labor and delivery experience; driver's license required at submittal.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high patient volume obstetrics units, knowledge of EPIC charting system, and familiarity with patient safety policies such as fingernail policies.
- Shift & Orientation: Duration includes 1 week of classroom training plus 2-3 shifts on the floor.
- Additional Information: The unit is Blue Distinction+ for patient care, breastfeeding-friendly, and has a policy for limited floating, primarily to sit or perform tasks only during critical staffing shortages. Floating is avoided unless necessary. Upfront RTO (Reasonable Time Off) requests are required for 7 days or less per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved.
- Other Requirements: RNs are required to read their own electrocardiogram strips. The unit operates within a 50-mile radius rule, and candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with certain health system groups.
