Job Overview
- Position: RN Hospice Director/Administrator
- Role is based in both a clinical and office environment
- May involve direct patient care when needed
- Responsible for overall hospice department operations, patient care, compliance, staffing, quality, budgeting, and community relations
- Works closely with hospital leadership, physicians, staff, and community organizations
Required License & Education
- Active Texas RN License – REQUIRED
- Additional 16 hours of hospice-specific administrative education required within 12 months of hire
- BSN preferred
Required Experience
- 2 years of hospice administration experience preferred
- Hospice clinical leadership experience
- Experience with department operations, staffing, and scheduling
- Experience with regulatory compliance and quality management
- Experience with performance improvement and healthcare leadership
Certifications
- Active Texas RN License – REQUIRED
- Hospice-specific administrative education: 16 hours within 12 months of hire
- Additional hospice-related certifications may be beneficial but are not specifically listed as required
Key Responsibilities
- Direct day-to-day hospice operations and patient care activities
- Provide clinical leadership and ensure quality end-of-life care
- Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations
- Develop strategic plans, goals, and performance outcomes
- Manage staffing, scheduling, hiring, training, and performance evaluations
- Provide direct patient care when needed
- Manage department budget, billing reconciliation, and charge management
- Lead quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure staff work within their scope of practice
- Maintain relationships with hospitals, physicians, community organizations, clergy, and healthcare agencies
- Represent hospice services at community events and professional meetings
- Oversee required training related to fraud prevention, patient rights, disaster planning, infection control, and hospice administration
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidate should have:
- Active Texas RN License
- Strong hospice leadership/administrative background
- 2+ years of hospice administration experience preferred
- Strong staffing and operational management skills
- Knowledge of hospice regulations and compliance
- Quality improvement and budget management experience
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Willingness to transition from temp-to-perm if interested
