Job Summary:
The Telemetry Medical Surgical Float registered nurse position is based in a healthcare facility in a designated zone around Garden City, Kansas. This role involves providing patient care across multiple units, including general medical-surgical, neuro, cardiac, oncology, and other specialties. The position requires flexibility to float within the zone and work 11.5-hour day shifts, with a minimum commitment of 34.5 hours per week.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Days shift, 11.5 hours per shift, with a minimum of 34.5 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice as a registered nurse, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications. A minimum of 2 years of recent telemetry medical-surgical experience is required.
• Preferred Qualifications: Prior neuro nursing experience, familiarity with Alaris infusion pumps, and EPIC electronic health record system experience.
• Float: Float rotation may be required within Zone 4, covering multiple hospitals and units, including general, neuro, cardiac, oncology, renal, and surgical units.
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5-6 depending on patient acuity.
• Additional Responsibilities: Titration of titratable infusions like Heparin may be necessary. Charge nurses manage unit operations; nurses may be asked to care for patients across various acuity levels, including ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele.
• Shifts & Scheduling: Schedule released 4-6 weeks in advance, with rotations of 7-7 days. Flexibility is required to help fill gaps in permanent staffing; time-off requests should be submitted prior to start. Nurses are expected to help with weekend shifts (6-9 within a 6-week schedule) and may be asked to participate in holiday rotations.
• Additional Notes: First float assignment will be communicated on or before the Monday start date. The traveler must ensure availability for orientation within the state without more than three missed shifts during the assignment.
• Charting System: EPIC.
• Other: No trauma level designated, minimal call or standby required, and the hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment.
• Licenses & Certifications: Valid RN license, BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
