Job Summary:
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse position located in an acute care facility within a high-volume urban setting. The role involves providing comprehensive emergency care to pediatric and adult patients, managing high-acuity cases including stroke, STEMI, trauma, and abdominal pain. The position requires adaptability to rotating shifts and collaborative work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient care.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts, including start times at 0730, 1000, 1130, 1330, 1530, and 1930 hours, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Shifts are scheduled based on unit needs, with no block scheduling.
- Required Qualifications: Valid BLS, ACLS, ENPC, PALS, and TNCC certifications; minimum of 2 years of emergency department experience in a larger urban hospital setting; applicable licensure; location outside of a 50-mile radius from the facility.
- Preferred Qualifications: Trauma experience preferred; familiarity with high-acuity patient management and rapid assessment protocols.
- Unit Details: The ER includes 45 beds (with 4 hallway, 4 vertical rooms, 1 trauma bay, 1 resuscitation bay, and 1 cardiac room). Trauma Level IV with ongoing efforts for Level III designation, operating with a rapid assessment vertical space, and a separate triage area.
- Patient Demographics and Conditions: Pediatrics and adults with diagnoses such as stroke, STEMI, trauma, abdominal pain, and high-acuity ESI level I patients. Pediatric stabilization and transfer are routine.
- Staffing & Workflow: At least 1 physician with up to 6 providers, 1 assistant nurse manager per shift, nurse aides/EMTs/paramedics at a ratio of 1:5-9, RT staff available 24/7 for ABGs and breathing treatments, and telemetry monitored by RNs.
- Procedures & Equipment: RNs and CNAs draw labs and perform wound care, providers handle splinting, and RT manages equipment. Critical imaging (X-ray/CT) available on-site, with patient transportation when necessary.
- Additional Details: One shift of unit-specific orientation post-hospital and Epic training. Rare floating to other ERs within the organizations hospitals. No call or standby requirements, and a dress code emphasizing cleanliness and professionalism.
