Job Summary:
Neuro Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) Night Shift Specialized Neurounit. This role involves caring for patients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, strokes, and other neurological conditions. The nurse will provide comprehensive care on a 23-bed unit, working within a patient-centered team to deliver high-quality neurological nursing care.
Job Details:
- Location: The assignment is scheduled to start on 09/14/2026 and end on 01/30/2027.
- Schedule: Nights shift, from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, at least 6 months of neuro-specific experience, and one year of total nursing experience.
- Patient Care Responsibilities: Trach care, ventilator management, IV therapy (including PICC and central lines), wound care, bowel programs, TPN, drains/tubes, pulmonary patients with trachs, laryngectomies, G-tube/Peg-tube feeds, and VADs (core staff responsible).
- Unit Environment: No monitors on unit but vital sync monitors and oxygen connection are utilized; centralized monitoring for night shifts.
- Technology/Equipment: Cerner electronic medical records, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing system.
- Orientation: Monday online, Tuesday in-person NVCI and orientation, Wednesday in-person unit orientation, with the rest of the week scheduled for training.
- Float Policy: Staff may float within scope of practice, primarily within the float pool; peds patients are not cared for.
- Additional Info: Scrub color is Galaxy Blue; free parking is available with badge access. The unit maintains a very accepting culture for travelers and upholds the same standards as regular staff.
- Other Notes: No monitors on the unit; the team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, residents, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and leadership staff. Holidays are worked on a rotating basis, and approval for time off (RTO) is managed through the supervisor.
