Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical Floor Nurse position is located in Hilo, Hawaii. The role involves providing patient care across various medical and surgical units, with a focus on night shifts. The nurse will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care in accordance with unit protocols, supporting patient recovery, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Job Details:
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (scheduled from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM) with a minimum of 36 hours per week following orientation.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Hawaii nursing license; 0-10 years of nursing experience; certifications including BLS and ACLS (PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC preferred).
- Additional Information: Candidates must arrive the Thursday before the start date to attend employee health appointments scheduled for Friday. The position involves floating between units such as Medical, Laulima (surgical acute), and Cardiovascular (on rare occasions). Orientation time will be provided for each unit.
- Equipment Utilized: Meditech electronic medical records, pyxis medication dispensing system, wound vacs, chest tubes.
- Unit/Department Details:
- Medical Unit: 77 beds
- Laulima Unit (surgical acute): 18 beds
- Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Medical - 1:6 during days and evenings, 1:8 at night; Laulima - 1:6; Cardiovascular - 1:4; ratios may vary due to staffing changes.
- Dress Code: Professional nursing attire with clean scrubs.
