Travel Med/Surg Neuro RN – Quick Highlights Specialty: Med/Surg Neuro / Tele RN Weekly Hours: 36 hours/week Shifts: Days: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM Nights: 6:30 PM–7:00 AM Experience: Travel experience preferred; strong first-time travelers considered Certifications: BLS & NIHSS required Unit: 25 beds Patient Ratio: 1:5–6 Patient Population: Med/Surg/Tele, stroke, stable neuro deficits, post-neurosurgery, ortho trauma and general Med/Surg overflow Common Cases: Joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, GI bleeds, pneumonia and failure to thrive Drips: Heparin, lidocaine and ketamine; PCA pumps Telemetry: Tele techs interpret strips; RN should have basic telemetry awareness Floating: Required to other Med/Surg areas Weekend: At least every other weekend; additional weekends may be required Holidays: 2–3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Block Scheduling: Limited block scheduling may be approved Orientation: 2 days Scrubs: Navy Blue Radius Rule: 50 miles Driver’s License: Required at submission for radius verification Compliance: No license or background hits accepted Exam: Open-book pass/fail exam during orientation; 90% minimum required Fingernails: Artificial nails prohibited for patient-care staff
