Job Summary:
The Postpartum Floor nursing position is located within a healthcare facility. This role involves caring for mothers and newborns during the postpartum period, supporting maternal and neonatal health, and providing education on newborn care. The position requires a dedicated nursing professional capable of managing high-risk situations and performing advanced neonatal and maternal assessments.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications:
- 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Nursing license in the state where care is provided
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (ANRP) certification
- Demonstrated ability to perform electronic fetal monitoring
- Demonstrated IV skills and ability to perform lab draws
- Knowledge of high risk medication administration (Magnesium, Oxytocin, Insulin)
- Ability to perform Urine Point of Care testing
- Knowledge of capillary blood glucose testing
- Knowledge of IStat testing methodology
- Ability to perform adult cardiac monitoring
- Knowledge of newborn monitors including pulse oximetry and cardiac monitoring
- Ability to perform heel sticks and venipuncture on newborns
- Knowledge of newborn medication administration and maintenance
- Knowledge of Bili-blankets, Bili-lights, and radiant warmers
- Support maternal-newborn teaching and postpartum bladder training
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in nursing or a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of labor and delivery experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of postpartum nursing experience
- Minimum one (1) year of medical/surgical nursing experience
Additional Information:
This role involves supporting both maternal and neonatal patient care, including monitoring fetal and newborn vital signs, administering medications, and providing patient education. The nurse will be responsible for maintaining high standards of safety and contributing to a supportive postpartum environment.
