🏥 Position Overview

The CVOR Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive nursing care within the Operating Room while supporting cardiovascular surgical procedures and maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and clinical practice.

The RN will independently perform nursing functions and delegated medical functions in accordance with accepted professional standards and applicable state Board of Nursing regulations.

This role requires strong clinical judgment, assessment skills, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to changing surgical and patient-care needs.

⚠️ Important Flexibility Requirement

The CVOR RN must be willing and able to flex to the General OR when needed and must work within their scope of competency and qualifications.

On-call coverage is also required.

 

🫀 Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Nursing Care

  • Assess patients and develop individualized nursing care plans
  • Collect, monitor, and evaluate ongoing patient health data
  • Assess changes in patient condition and respond appropriately
  • Implement and evaluate nursing interventions
  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care
  • Monitor patient response to therapy and treatment 

CVOR / Operating Room Support

  • Provide nursing support for cardiovascular surgical procedures
  • Perform independent nursing functions within the scope of practice
  • Execute delegated medical functions appropriately
  • Support safe and efficient surgical workflows
  • Maintain patient safety throughout the perioperative process
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Flex to General OR assignments when required and within competency 

Patient Education & Advocacy

  • Provide health teaching and counseling to patients and families
  • Explain treatment plans and procedures as appropriate
  • Promote patient understanding and participation in care
  • Refer patients for additional evaluation or treatment when needed
  • Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and well-being 

Documentation & Care Coordination

  • Accurately document nursing care in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements
  • Review and monitor therapy and treatment plans
  • Coordinate care with members of the healthcare team
  • Utilize appropriate clinical and organizational resources
  • Communicate patient information effectively and professionally

🎓 Requirements

Required

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience
  • Current Registered Nurse license
    • Single-state RN license or
    • Compact RN license
  • BLS – American Heart Association
  • ACLS – American Heart Association
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an Operating Room environment  
  • Ability to flex to General OR within scope of competency 

Preferred

  • Previous Registered Nurse experience in an Operating Room/CVOR environment
  • BSN – Bachelor of Science in Nursing
