- Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating shifts
- Schedule: 3x12-hour day/night rotation (07:00-19:00 / 19:00-07:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Required as scheduled
- Floating: May float within specialty to ICU, Cardiac PCU, and lower-acuity areas as needed
- On-Call: May be required
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
- Unit Size: 15 beds
- Average Daily Census: 10 patients
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU nursing experience required
- Strong candidates with first-time travel nurse experience may be considered if they have solid Cardiovascular ICU skills
- Active Maryland RN license or compact RN license required at time of submission
- BLS and ACLS required
- CPI certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Epic charting experience required
- CCRN preferred
- Experience caring for 1:1 to 1:3 patient ratios preferred
- Must be comfortable floating within scope
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, expert patient care to critically ill cardiac patients in a high-acuity CVICU setting
- Monitor and manage patients with cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, and pulmonary hypertension
- Care for patients undergoing advanced therapy workups, including LVAD and heart transplant evaluations
- Manage mechanical circulatory support devices such as Impella, VAD, IABP, and CRRT
- Perform and support bedside procedures including central line and arterial line insertion, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, and Swan/PA catheter insertion
- Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, manage continuous sedation, and support ventilator care
- Monitor hemodynamics, rhythm changes, labs, intake/output, and overall patient response to treatment
- Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary healthcare team members
- Respond quickly to changes in patient condition and participate in STEMI team coverage as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and uphold strong safety and infection prevention practices
